Giving Up On Grace

January 31st 2008

Mid-Week Study Recap 1/30/08
Watch now.

When it comes to pleasing God as believers, there is going to be that constant battle between walking and living by faith, in order to please God; in contrast to trying to earn His favor through works of the flesh. It’s an issue the Galatians were struggling with in chapter four. How do you respond to this issue?

Digging Deeper:

Examine yourself through prayer and ask God to reveal your motivations. Are you living and walking by faith or trying to earn favor through works of the flesh?

Galations 4:1:31

Proverbs 27:6

Mark 14:36

Psalm 27:14

John 3:6

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered

January 24th 2008

Midweek Study Recap 1/23/08
Watch now.

We are living in a world that is lost, dying, and, in many respects, losing its mind. The only message of hope in existence today is the gospel message of salvation! A person would literally have to be bewitched and bewildered to receive that message by faith, and then desert it for something else.

Join Pastor Jeff as he continues in Chapter 3 of the book of Galatians.

Galatians 3:1-29
Galatians 3:10
Romans 8:9
Philippians 1:6

Upside Down Living

January 22nd 2008

Sunday Study Recap 1/20/08

Watch now.

We are living in a culture that is obsessed with “self,” but the Bible tells us to “esteem others better than himself.” In Chapter 1 of Philippians, Paul tells us “to live is Christ.” Now in Chapter 2, he says, in effect, “live for others.”

In today’s message, Pastor Greg gives us three practical ways we can put others first and find a way to the joy that God intends for us all..

Dig deeper with these Scripture references:

Philippians 2:1-5

James 4:9

James 4:1-2

Jeremiah 17:9

Romans 12:15

Family Gets Baptized

January 17th 2008

Rita and her family have been attending Harvest for four months.

She is a brand-new believer, thanks to a coworker who shared Jesus with her and gave her a Bible that she now carries everywhere she goes. She said that something about the worship and the teaching at Harvest stuck with her. Even though she doesn’t understand everything, she learns something new each week. She said, “I know the stories are about Paul and Barnabas or whoever, but they are also about us, you know? And they tell us how to live!”

After hearing about the baptism, her son Albert told his mom that he wanted to get baptized. Then her daughter Cathy said she wanted to get baptized too. Rita said, “I am usually afraid to do things, but if my son and daughter have the courage to do this, so can I.  And now I am even more excited about walking with Jesus.”

She has been attending the Christian Basics classes on Monday nights and attended her first women’s study this morning. She is really soaking up everything she can to learn about Jesus.

What a blessing! Welcome to Harvest, Rita!

Not Ashamed of the Gospel

January 17th 2008

Midweek Study Recap 1/16/08
Watch now.

The idea that we are saved by faith alone and not by good works is a key element to understanding the concept of grace, which is often misunderstood. It is not easy to speak the truth, but it is essential. We can draw courage and insight from the apostle Paul who stood up for the truth and set the record straight in Chapter 2 of Galatians.

Galatians 2:1-21

Ephesians 2:8-9
