Unlocking the Last Days

June 26th 2008

Beginning Wednesday, July 2, Pastor Jeff Lasseigne will begin an in-depth, verse-by-verse study in the Book of Revelation. The name of the study will be Unlocking the Last Days.

When Pastor Jeff did an in-depth study in this intriguing book for the Men’s Bible Fellowship 12 years ago, the study grew to more than 900 men—the largest group in MBF history!

Make plans to be part of this life-changing Bible study and bring your family and friends. You will discover your own excitement growing over the Lord’s return as you learn more about the last days we are living in.

Leading Others to Christ

June 24th 2008

We are all called to preach the gospel and make disciples, but how can we do it effectively? The truth is that there are certain things that are true of every conversion, things that we can take to heart when we share our faith. In this message from his series, Upside-Down Living, Pastor Greg looks at the story of Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8, and points out certain things that are true of every conversion experience.

What is Mentoring Matters?

June 24th 2008

Mentoring Matters is a new ministry at Harvest designed to encourage and train women in their high calling, which is to honor God’s Word in their hearts and homes.

Based upon the principles laid out in Titus 2, the older women in the body of Christ are instructed to promote and model by example the kind of living that reflects God’s presence in the home. Women can have the blessing of being part of a small intimate group of ladies who want to be nurtured and encouraged in applying solid scriptural principles and sound practical solutions to everyday life.

How long is the commitment?

Mentoring Matters is an eight-week cycle with topics that include:

  • Week 1—Get Acquainted/What Is Mentoring Matters?
  • Week 2—Honoring God’s Word
  • Week 3—Loving your husband
  • Week 4—Loving your children
  • Week 5—Keepers of the home (cooking, housecleaning, laundry, etc.)
  • Week 6—Stewardship (resources, time, energy, own health)
  • Week 7—Inner person of the heart (attributes of a godly woman)
  • Week 8—Koinonia: Celebrating What God Has Done

This new ministry launched last week with its first meeting. If you did not get signed up (the registration filled up quickly) for this cycle, don’t worry! Another cycle will begin in the fall, so keep your eyes open for the fall registration that will be posted in the Church bulletin. Mentoring Matters is an ongoing ministry and there will be many more opportunities to be part of this growing ministry!

A Father’s Day Message and Slideshow

June 16th 2008

All of us need to know that we are loved unconditionally. This message will give you encouragement to extend that unconditional love to your children and spouse, and it will give you hope that even if your parents have let you down in this area, God does love at all times, no matter what. In this message, Pastor Greg also points out the other traits that make godly fathers, using illustrations from the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

From Pastor Greg’s blog

June 13th 2008

As you know, my son Christopher and his wife Brittany are expecting another child, which of course means another grandchild for Cathe and me.

Well, we just found out that it is . . . A GIRL! So Stella, our first grandchild, will have a little sister to take care of.

Stella already is a very nurturing little girl. She likes to play with her little miniature kitchen set that we got her and feed her little baby doll in the high chair.

Troops…to your knees!

June 12th 2008

As our team of 22 prepares to depart for New Orleans in less than 24 hours, Pastor Rick Schutte received a call from Pastor Rick Noote of Crossfire Church, where we are going to rebuild. The County Building
Department has tagged the church with an order to halt construction.

Just like with Tobias and Sanballat in the days of Nehemiah, Satan does not want the Lord’s work to proceed. While there are other projects that we will be able to work on, and Pastor Schutte (who used to be a general contractor) has given Pastor Noote some advice on dealing with the inspectors, etc., this is a reminder that we need have our tools in one hand and our weapons in the other. We cannot all be with the team as they pick up tools to rebuild our fourth Gulf Coast church; we can proceed to fight the enemy with our greatest weapon . . . prayer!

The good news: As there are many needs for rebuilding, the Lord has given Harvest Missions the burden to rebuild the churches. It is obvious we are on the right path! When you work on a house, if work gets halted, there is one nearby that needs help. We prayerfully seek out churches that the Lord wants rebuilt because they preach the Word. I anxiously look forward to how the Lord will show Himself faithful to bless this effort.

I will update you when more is known.

In His service,

Larry Robillard, Coordinator

GOOAALL!!!

June 10th 2008

The Harvest Youth Sports soccer program wrapped up yet another fun-filled season. I’m sure soccer coordinators David and Norma Contreras would say their 11th season really scored!

More than 100 children from our church, ages 5-14, competed against each other weekly on the beautiful front lawns of Cal Baptist University.

While learning new skills or honing old ones is certainly a benefit of the Youth Sports league, David, Norma, and the other dedicated coordinators and coaches would say the primary emphasis is God’s Word through the weekly devotions that players and their families participate in. Developing good sportsmanship, fair play, and godly character through team sports is a lesson well learned by all the athletes.

Check out the Youth Sports link for more information on how you can get involved next season and take a look at a few pictures we put together from this year!

A Life Well-Lived and Slideshow

June 10th 2008

You decide what principles you will live by, what road you will take. And if you have no goals, no purpose or guiding principles you will waste your life. Here in the book of Acts we ready about a real hero of the faith; Steven. He was a courageous young man who did not live a long life, but he left his mark in a profound and significant way. Pastor Greg shares some of the keys to Steven’s effective leadership.
