God Moves Mountains in Louisiana – Part 2 (and slideshow)

July 24th 2008

Recently Pastor Rick Schutte shared about how God used a team from Harvest to help build a new Crossfire Church in Slidell, Louisiana, an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. We wanted to share just a bit of the back-story too. How did God lead Harvest to this church?
Over four years ago the Lord put it on Greg and Constance Mariano’s heart to move their family of three from New Orleans to Harvest Christian Fellowship. Little did they know a devastating hurricane named Katrina would destroy so much of what they loved about their Louisiana home. One of those people suffering great loss was Pastor Rick Noote – a man who had baptized members of the family years ago. Continue Reading »

Because the night is falling…

July 22nd 2008

This week Pastor John Collins gives us a brief look at what’s on the horizon and how we can stem the tide of the night-

“We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4 NKJV).

Night is falling. We are on the crest of another election. Abortion is becoming a “non-issue,” homosexual “rights” are being championed by the leading candidates, and politicians say “change” is in the air.

But change is only code for lowering the standard of moral behavior, for accommodation to the tide of sin and selfish pursuit.

People want freedom from personal responsibility, from longstanding social mores, from religious disciplines, from biblical standards. The nature of man is to be free from what he perceives to be a tyranny that shackles his artistic expression, sexual experience, and pursuit of sensual gratification. Continue Reading »

No limbs, no limits… no worries!

July 17th 2008

On Sunday morning, Pastor Greg interviewed Nick Vujicic. What a wonderful young man he is and God is using Nick in a powerful way to bring encouragement to people all around the world. He’s been featured recently on the TV program 20/20. He’ll be on Oprah Winfrey’s show in the near future, as well. Nick takes his disability and uses it as an ability to glorify God. Who can argue with a man who has faced the setbacks that Nick has? He’s a living testimony of God’s grace.

Here’s a video of the interview Pastor Greg did with him this past Sunday:

God Moves Mountains in Louisiana

July 9th 2008

In June, Pastor Rick Schutte and a team of 22 people from Harvest went to New Orleans for another rebuilding effort in the name of Jesus Christ. Pastor Rick shared with us the obstacles they faced and the triumphs they witnessed. All things are truly possible with God!

Here’s what Pastor Rick told us:

This was our eighth trip into the New Orleans area to help with the
rebuilding efforts there. So far, we’ve assisted on three church projects.
Recently, Crossfire Church in Slidell, Louisiana, was brought to our attention after being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Once several phone meetings had taken place with Crossfire’s senior pastor, Rick Noote, we began preparations to bring in a team of 22 people from Harvest to help rebuild the church.
Before our plane touched ground we were faced with several roadblocks. County officials placed a cease-and-desist order on the property. The fire marshal would not give permission to begin restoration until the proper permits were secured and there were fees in excess of $45,000 to be paid before we could begin. We also needed a finalized, approved set of plans from their architect and engineer. These were some serious obstacles, yet we knew after praying that the Lord was calling us to help with the rebuilding of Crossfire church. Continue Reading »
